Cardiac Ultrasound / Echocardiogram
What is it?
A cardiac ultrasound scan (also referred to as an Echocardiogram) is a non-invasive painless test which examines the heart, including its pumping efficiency and heart valves.
How is it done?
The Cardiac Sonographer will ask you to lie on an examination couch. An ultrasound emitting transducer is moved over various positions on your chest to build up a series of images. These images will be analyzed, providing an assessment of your heart function. Please allow 30-45minutes for this procedure.
What to wear:
Usual daytime clothes. Ladies, please wear a separate top. A shirt will be provided for you to wear during the test.
Is there any preparation needed?
There is no preparation or aftercare required, so you can leave immediately after the procedure.
