Electrical Cardioversion
What is it?
A medical procedure to restore a normal heart rhythm in people with certain types of abnormal heartbeats (arrhythmias).
How is it done?
Under sedation and a short general anaesthetic, a small electrical current is introduced to the heart via external paddles. This current can help reset the heart rhythm, restoring your normal heartbeat. This is normally a day procedure and you are expected to be discharged home that evening.
Preparation
This is normally performed at one of the Private Hospitals in Hamilton by your Cardiologist. A full explanation with any preparation required, will be given before your appointment.
